A smaller project, that's been ongoing in the background for a while, finally reached the point of playability. While I already have one version of bearded barbarians from the cold north (my vikings), here is another version, some 400 years earlier.
Most shaggy barbarians come in the default "warrior" way, with a mix of spears, axes, and a few swords. Since saxons, famously, are named for their short swords/long knives, I tried to go mostly with shorter weapons, but a few spears snuck in anyway.
And then there is, of course, the fellows who can afford armour, and some actual combat training, the hearthguard (and drinking buddies of the boss, if you want).
And finally, the leaders of the band. Since Saxons, in SAGA, have a few special tricks, giving them a Personal Champion (I like to imagine that he's the younger brother of the Warlord) can be a fun trick.
All in all, a nice, compact warband that wasn't too much work to paint (never mind how long it took me, that's because I kept being distracted). And there's plenty of room for expansion, too. While they're nominally saxons, they can just as well be Goths or Franks, in SAGA terms (there's a reason I refer to them as "Bearded/Shaggy/Hairy Barbarians from the North"), so more warriors is always useful, as is some levy. And mercenaries... some deserters, or allies from other tribes, the sky's the limit. But now I can play them, at least!
